“He’s my favorite and the only rapper I listen to.”

well that’s nice. I love Sho and his words too but I really think that’s an awfully close-minded thing to say.

there’s a cultural difference between western and eastern rap. J-rappers don’t rap about any of those things because it’s culturally inappropriate. your sex life and drug abuse are private matters that are kept behind closed doors. you don’t put those kinds of things out on the floor for everyone to see.

(well honestly there are j-rappers that will sometimes make suggestive remarks regarding things like sex, but not as crudely and explicitly as they do here.)

but if anything, a pattern I’ve noticed is that all J-rappers talk about the same things that you say Sho does - life, love, and encouragement. so try broadening your knowledge of J-rap if you really like what Sho has to say, because there are lots of artists who rap about the same things he does, and most of the time, even better.

but that’s assuming that you’re more interested in the things people have to say than in who’s saying it.

another point that I want to make is that here in the western part of the world, there are so many good rappers out there that also have equally meaningful things to say. you just don’t see it because they’re usually underground artists, and more often than not, you have to find it for yourself. rappers aren’t given proper exposure in mainstream media unless they talk about things like partying, sex, and/or drugs, because that’s what brings in money. mainstream media exposes us to shit instead of perspective.

I’m just asking that you realize that not all rap is the same. rap is about your life and your passions and your life and passions are your own and therefore do not and cannot apply to everyone, thus making rap very diverse. and to be more relevant to this secret, you also have to realize that Sakurai Sho isn’t the only one that has something encouraging or meaningful to rap about.

honestly I’m not butthurt at all rn. I’m just trying to advocate GOOD rap. because sometimes, a simple phrase can change your outlook on life.

…I just kind of laugh at the fact no one remembers Te Agero, which is about a one-night stand in a club *and* doing drugs. And yes, Sho’s got credit for the rap in that one…

+1 to beatplusmelody. Besides, Sho also studied underground rappers when he was still radio DJ. And what happened to TABOO? Come on, “A map to an uncharted land / The honey buried deep in the hive” was total reference to sex. Didn’t know? Now you do.

Also the girl’s scent on his fingers. That song. (Of course, those images + Arashi performing this for Sho’s birthday kind of ruined all sexual imagery of that song for me…)

LOL THE THINGS I COULD SAY… oh wait, I already did. That’s called my 20 page thesis. :Dv
